Trainwreck Strain — Brace For Impact

With a name like Trainwreck, this speedy, sativa-dominant hybrid pretty much gives itself away as a heavy hitter. The Trainwreck strain is an extremely potent combo of Mexican and Thai sativas crossed with an Afghani indica.

Delivering nothing less than a hurtling rollercoaster of a high, this mind-bending strain hits like a freight train after just a couple tokes. A great after-work bud, Trainwreck kicks off with a rush of euphoria, happiness, and creativity before layering in a mellowing, pain-numbing body buzz.

While its effects are mostly cerebral, the Trainwreck strain experience culminates in full-body relaxation and ultimately, gentle sleepiness. Its high THC content is excellent for wiping out migraines, muscle spasms, and pain, while it’s intense cerebral high delivers a potent mood boost and stress relief.

Where The Strain Is Grown

The Trainwreck strain’s history is a bit of a mystery. It’s thought to have originated in the Emerald Triangle region of Northern California where pure Mexican, Thai, and Afghani strains were common from the 1960s through the early 1980s.

Legend has it that the strain was named after a trainwreck that occurred one summer in Humboldt County, California. Supposedly, the original cut grew in the area during the same summer.

Today, the Trainwreck strain is a Northern California staple.

Trainwreck Growing Info

The Trainwreck strain is easy to grow, so it’s a solid choice even if you’re just starting your at-home cultivation journey. This strain grows well both indoors and out and can reach heights of up to 15 feet, so you’ll want to trim your plants regularly to encourage optimal bud development.

As with most strains, you can veg Trainwreck for as long as you see fit — four to eight weeks is pretty standard — and you’ll want to let your plants flower for eight to ten weeks as well. After flushing the soil of nutrients, you can harvest your bud and should get up to 700 grams per outdoor plant or 500 grams per square meter indoors.

Trainwreck Terpene Profile

Trainwreck’s primary terpene is phellandrene, which imparts a woody, herbaceous, mild citrus flavor and aroma to each bud. This strain is also high in:

  • Myrcene (musky, fruity, sweet, earthy, herbaceous)
  • Linalool (citrusy + floral, with a touch of spice)
  • Pinene (piney, herbaceous, woodsy, earthy)
  • Terpinolene (piney, floral, herbaceous, citrusy)
  • Caryophyllene (spicy + sweet, with notes of black pepper, allspice, and cinnamon)
  • Limonene (citrusy, tangy, sweet)

Top Three Strains Similar to Trainwreck

Mint Chocolate Chip

Mint Chocolate Chip doesn’t taste anything like Trainwreck but delivers a similarly mind-altering high. It’s also a 50/50 hybrid that’s a bit less potent, so it can be a solid choice for low-tolerance tokers.

Wedding Crashers

If you love Trainwreck’s exhilarating, have-fun-doing-anything vibe, Wedding Crashers should be right up your alley.

Pineapple Express

Like Trainwreck, the sativa-dominant Pineapple Express strain (which is a cross of Trainwreck x Hawaiian) is a heavy hitter and will leave you feeling euphoric, invigorated, uninhibited, and physically soothed.

Trainwreck Strain Summary

Trainwreck’s sativa-dominant lineage shines through in a major way, delivering a strong euphoric, happy, uplifting, and creative cerebral high. But the strain also retains the typical effects of its Afghani indica roots, producing a calming, full-body buzz that’s perfect for relaxing after a long day.

An excellent tool for pain relief, mood leveling, and all-around feel-good vibes, Trainwreck is a long-time favorite among both medical and recreational smokers.
