Chicago Cubs become first MLB team to partner with CBD company

The Chicago Cubs agreed to a partnership with MYND DRINKS, a manufacturer of hemp-based wellness and recovery beverages, becoming the first Major League Baseball (MLB) team to partner with a CBD company.

Under the agreement, Chicago-based MYND DRINKS will have various signage elements throughout Wrigley Field, the Cubs’ home stadium, as well as international marketing rights in the United Kingdom throughout the 2023 MLB season, according to a release.

The agreement comes six months after MLB became the first North American professional sports league to partner with a CBD company, having agreed to a multi-year partnership with Charlotte’s Web, a Denver-based manufacturer of hemp extract wellness products, in October 2022.

“When MLB opened the CBD category for its clubs, it allowed us to explore new partnership opportunities and offerings,” Cubs Vice President of Corporate Partnerships Alex Seyferth said in a news release. “We’re proud to be the first club to partner with a CBD company, but what was more important to us was making sure that the brand was the right fit. MYND DRINKS is a Chicago-based company that promotes overall wellness and helps ease the stressors of everyday life, just like a Friday 1:20 game at Wrigley Field.”

In order for CBD companies to be eligible for MLB partnerships, they must first receive Certified for Sports designation from NSF, a global, independent auditor of consumer product safety and quality standards. All three MYND DRINKS products – Elderberry Passionfruit, Lemon Ginger, and Orange Mango – received NSF Certified for Sport designation after an approval process, according to the release.

As part of the partnership, the Cubs will release a guided mediation narrated by radio play-by-play announcer Pat Hughes on the team’s YouTube channel, as well as a “Sounds of Wrigley Field” Spotify playlist, according to the release.

“We are so thrilled and honored to announce our partnership with the legendary Chicago Cubs, and that they share our vision of health and wellness in major league sports,” MYND DRINKS CEO Simon Allen said.

MYND DRINKS are currently available for purchase both on the company’s website as well as at select Chicago retailers.
