Bladnoch Distillery Description

Bladnoch Distillery was the first distillery to be constructed in Scotland in over 100 years, when it opened its doors in 1817. Over the next 150 years, the distillery changed hands multiple times and was eventually mothballed in 1927 until it was bought by Raymond Armstrong in 2001 and restored to its former glory as one of Scotland’s finest Scotch whisky distilleries. Today, visitors can learn all about the distillery’s history, as well as visit its gift shop and sample its unique products at Bladnoch Distillery itself or any of numerous licensed outlets around the world.

The History
The distillery, on a site where whisky has been produced since 1778, was originally built as an extension to a large farm. The owners wanted to make whisky and needed somewhere to store it! The farm and distillery changed hands several times before being bought by Sandy Scott who introduced new equipment and fresh ideas for malting, fermenting and distilling. Since then there have been many changes of ownership but Bladnoch remains one of Scotland’s most traditional working distilleries.
