Bacardi Distillery Information
Bacardi Distillery Description
The Bacardi Distillery is currently the largest Rum producer in the world, with distilleries in Puerto Rico (where they also have a large visitor center) and Mexico, along with numerous other facilities across the globe.
The company was founded in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó in Santiago de Cuba.
The Castro lead revolution meant that the Bacardi family left Cuba in 1960, and whilst they had already started production outside of Cuba, the confiscation of the original facility required a significant period of rebuilding.
Whilst not all the key production details (such as using a specific yeast strain for fermentation, continuous column distillation, and charcoal filtration for color stripping the aged distillate), can be said to have been created by the company.
They very well may have been responsible for some firsts for Rum production, and have certainly been widely adopted by Bacardi’s competitors.
