Auchinblae Distillery Information
Auchinblae Distillery Description
Auchinblae is the name of a small town in the southeastern Highlands.
In 1795, a flax mill was built and operated for several decades. In 1895, the buildings were purchased by a consortium of more than 200 citizens who converted the facility — powered by a local water wheel — into a distillery.
The joy was relatively short-lived however, as the business closed and the land was sold once again in 1930. The buildings still exist. They are used for storage, as well as garages, and the offices have been converted into local housing.
But one look from the outside, and the history of spirit making is evident in the traditional pagoda-style roof and layout.
