Braeval Distillery Information
Braeval Distillery Description
The Braeval distillery has been producing Scotch whisky since 1897, which means they have decades of experience behind them. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t have any secrets up their sleeves! Learn about ten things you didn’t know about this popular distillery.
Founded in 1883, Braeval is one of Scotland’s oldest and most celebrated single malt Scotch whisky producers. The company was founded in 1883 by three farmers who purchased a second-hand set of stills and converted a building on their property into a small-scale distillery. Production was simple—copper stills heated an alembic made from copper, clay and lead that fermented barley for just over 2 days before it was distilled. Low production ensured high quality; every bottle bore its maker’s name.
The company recycles over 80% of its water, used in all aspects of production. It is not only environmentally friendly but helps save money as well. This factor has helped to make Braeval one of Scotland’s most energy efficient and cost effective distilleries. The water recycling saves over 100,000 liters of water per day that would otherwise be spent on sourcing clean fresh water from a national provider.
