G13 Strain – A Speculative Tale

The G13 strain, also known as “Government Indica Strain 13,” is surrounded by speculative tales. We might never know whether they’re fact or fiction. But what we do know is this: G13 delivers powerful effects, and if given the opportunity, it’s a strain every weed lover should try at least once.

This insanely potent, indica-leaning hybrid has a THC concentration of 22% to 24% and is 70% indica and 30% sativa. Its effects kick off with a hard-hitting sense of euphoria and an energizing buzz, but neither lasts very long. What does last for hours, however, is its heavy body buzz and intensely relaxing effect that lulls users into deep laziness, sedation, and ultimately, sleep.

Strain Information

Rumors surround G13’s origin story. At this point, because the strain is so old, it isn’t easy to differentiate between legitimate facts and urban myth. But the story supposedly begins in rural Mississippi, sometime during the late 1960s or early 1970s.

According to certain stories, during those years, multiple U.S. government agencies were working to develop new strains of weed with help from the University of Mississippi (where government-approved cannabis grows). Apparently, the government agencies involved had gathered together all the best cannabis strains from around the world and used them to breed new super hybrids.

An unknown lab technician involved in the project allegedly liberated a single cutting of the G13 strain, and from there, it spread across the United States. Is this story legit? No one knows, and more than likely, no one ever will.

As far as its effects, the G13 strain produces a potent, stoney, long-lasting body high that’s typical of its indica roots. It also delivers a powerful yet short-lived cerebral high that’s happy, uplifting, and focus-inducing.

Given its long-lasting and powerfully relaxing effects, the G13 strain is great for addressing anxiety, depression, chronic pain, insomnia, and chronic headaches. This bud is definitely better suited for smoking during the latter part of the afternoon and into the evening. Comparably relaxing strains include Gorilla Glue #4, Grape Escape, and Blue Cheese OG.
